Plant Heaving
Plant heaving occurs when the soil has extreme temperature changes. The soil pushes upward lifting the plants and exposing the roots. If you mulched well in the fall, your plants are less likely to have this problem.
This has happened in my garden in the late winter when we have those temperature fluctuations. It’s an easy fix! Take a walk around your garden and check your plants for signs of heaving. Especially the ones that were planted last fall. If they are heaving, gently press the soil back down without disturbing the crown of the plant. It will save the plants life.
