Bulky… or.. Bulk is Key!
Bulky Means
1. Having considerable bulk; massive.
2. Of large size for its weight: a bulky knit.
3. Clumsy to manage; unwieldy.

This is the definition of bulky according to the online Free Dictionary by Farlex. All three definitions are appropriate for my money saving garden tip this week.
When you can…buy in bulk!
In most shopping arenas bulk is usually cheaper. In the garden world it is considerably cheaper. Here are a few examples.

Potting soil. This bale of potting soil will do all of my containers for 2 years! I ordered it through a small local greenhouse. It was almost half the price of buying several small bags of potting soil to do the same job.
Fertilizer. Buying small containers of pellet time released fertilizer can be very costly. I purchased a larger back that equals about 10 or more small containers. This turns out to be a fraction of the cost. Again, I ordered this through a local greenhouse. Most garden centers should have this on hand.
Seeds. Do you see the price of this box of sweet alyssum seed? Do you know how much one 4″ pot of alyssum costs? Around $3.00. One plant…or One hundred plants? You do the math.
Sphagnum Moss. This entire bale cost $36.00. I used half of it this year for my wire basket containers, small pots, and a few gift containers. I picked it up at a local nursery. Definitely a money saving purchase when you consider that a very small bag of this moss usually costs $5.00.
So…Bulk is Key! You might also want to know that these purchases are usually Bulky. =)
